My first love is art, and as an artist, I have always appreciated the ability to create the visual identity of brands from scratch. As a brand consultant and web designer, I always begin the design process by thoroughly researching the client's industry, competitors, and target audience.
For the hair extensions / salon company called My Hair Bundles, the first priority was the logo. I utilized software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create a range of logo and packaging design options. I then worked closely with the client to review and select the best option that aligned with their vision, while also considering factors such as brand identity, market appeal, and product differentiation.
This was an exciting project and it pushed my creative capacity to limits I didn't think I could achieve. I also collaborated with the client on photography and product mockups to ensure that the final design accurately represented the product and effectively conveyed the desired message to the target audience. Overall, my primary focus during this phase of the process was to prioritize the client's needs and preferences to create a design that truly reflected their brand and resonated with their target market.
In the web design phase of the project, I put a great deal of emphasis on preparation of content, visual hierarchy, typography, and overall brand cohesiveness. This involved working closely with the client to gather and organize all necessary information and assets, such as product images and descriptions, company mission and values, and customer testimonials. I then used this content to create a clear and consistent visual hierarchy that effectively communicated the most important information to the user, while also staying true to the overall brand aesthetic established in the previous phase.
Although the logo is very "serif-y", I knew that in order to encourage users to read more, I'd have to lead them through the site with a more modern and simple sans-serif font. Poppins worked perfectly. It's youthful and has what's traditionally considered feminine energy, which makes it a little softer and easier on the eyes than bolder fonts. I payed close attention to typography, using font pairing and size variations to create a visually pleasing and easy-to-read layout. The goal was to create a website that was both aesthetically pleasing and functional, that conveyed the company's message and products effectively, and that was easy for customers to navigate and purchase from.
To ensure that the site was accessible to users on all devices, I put a lot of effort into making the website responsive, which means that the layout and functionality of the site adjust automatically based on the size of the screen it is being viewed on. This way, customers can access the site from anywhere in the US, whether they're using a desktop, laptop, tablet or phone, and have a seamless experience. Overall, the web design phase was a crucial step in creating a cohesive and effective online presence for the My Hair Bundles brand, and was executed with a great deal of attention to detail and care.
